Water Valley

Visitors turning west on Highway 579 from Highway 22 will travel but a few kilometers to the community of Water Valley. About 45 minutes northwest of Calgary, this community is a gateway to the Foothills, greeting visitors like a smile on a neighbour's face.

For many residents and weekenders, Water Valley is a refuge from the hectic pace of the city. A broad cross-section of people call Water Valley home. Writers, artists, musicians, filmmakers, retirees, and commuters live on acreages or in one of the several sub-divisions in the area along with the long-time ranchers and farmers. If you are looking for a day trip or a place to call home, Water Valley is just a short jaunt west off the Cowboy Trail (Highway 22), 37 km north of Cochrane. The road leads to our community. We’re an hour from Calgary and 30 minutes from Cochrane – the perfect distance for an afternoon drive or weekend escape. It’s about time you come to Water Valley for an adventure.

While you're here visit the Aspen Cafe for an awesome espresso (beware of the brownies... you may get addicted), have a pizza at the Trail's End Pizza Lounge (homemade pizza you'll make the drive for time after time), check out the Fallentimber Meadery (yes, MEAD - honey wine! - made just north of downtown Water Valley), learn archery at Dragonflight Archery (take lessons, join the weekly competition and walk the beautiful outdoor course), shop at The Red House Gift Shop, have a beer at the Water Valley Saloon or ice cream at the General Store. You may just want to stay overnight. Ataraxia Lodge may just be the relaxing setting you're looking for.
